This is the Day the Lord has Made

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Ps. 118:2 I can still hear my parents’ voices echoing this morning verse at our farm breakfast table. What a blessing to have grown up in a Christian home with the ability to share daily family devotions. This is one prayer of many that I pray for all my students and their future spouses.

God has been with me every day, and has blessed me with so many amazing school families and mentors in this amazing journey of life. I began my teaching journey in Merrill, WI, at Trinity Lutheran, then on to Peace Lutheran in Tustin, CA, and next to Grace Lutheran in Escondido, CA. That’s when I first talked to my husband to be on a different day and different year than he talked to me. How is that math possible?

That brought me to my St. John’s family. I began teaching in January, so that Mrs. Rhoda Davis [still a part of our St. John’s family] could begin her family. The students and I sang at Hannah’s baptism later that year. The best part of being at St. John’s is watching your students grow up and become what God had planned for them: parents, volunteers, BOE members, doctors, lawyers, scientists, and so much more.

One of my greatest joys is seeing these amazing young minds and beautiful children grow in their knowledge and faith in Jesus. I have been really blessed to have taught with some of my former students right here at St. John’s. Miriam {Preus} Armstrong, Anna Fuhrman, and Kari Preus share their love of Jesus in all they do in and out of their classrooms. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for them here at St. John’s and beyond.

I continue to learn and grow as God’s baptized child. This year, I am learning from our newest students about life outside of the US. Plus, I am always surprised at how creative our students can be, whether in art, writing, music, or creating slideshows. May we always continue to be lifelong learners, especially in Scriptures.
